County Down man who abused boys jailed for a year
A 53-year-old man from County Down has been jailed for 12 months for abusing three boys under the age of 13.
The abuse took place over a six year period in a village where the man and his victims lived.
At the time of the abuse, between 1977 and 1983, the defendant would have been aged between 14 and 19.
The grandfather, who cannot be named, will spend an additional 18 months on parole whenever he is released.
At Downpatrick Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, the man pleaded guilty to a total of 22 offences, including multiple counts of indecent assault and gross indecency.
When passing sentence, the judge reminded the defendant that two of his victims now suffer from PTSD, while another has an adjustment disorder.
During sentencing, Judge Piers Grant said it was "quite clear that on each occasion you isolated the victims in order to abuse them... and you kept them available to you and you alone."
