Colder weather to come - with freezing temperatures set to stay

People will need to wrap up warm for the rest of the week, as today's cold weather is set to stay.

“Today is much colder than any day during the last week and the rest of the week will be similar,” a Met Éireann forecaster told independent.ie.

“Temperatures will stay at around eight to 11 degrees tomorrow and Friday, but it will be cloudier with rain and wind on Friday, and that will make it feel colder,” the forecaster continued.

Rain in Ulster and Connaught will spread tomorrow afternoon and we may see some heavier rain and hail showers on Friday.

Most areas will stay clear and bright over the weekend with some sunny spells and few showers, mainly in coastal areas.

We will also see some frost at night, but it will continue to clear early.

“We had a recording of minus two degrees last night and some frost, but it was gone before 10 o’clock,” the forecaster said. “Generally it should clear before midday.”

Temperatures may dip below freezing again over the weekend, with frost every night.
