Revenue officers seized 400,000 illegal cigarettes, valued at over €200,000, in Dublin port yesterday.

Revenue officers yesterday seized 400,000 cigarettes at Dublin Port. 

The cigarettes were concealed within pallets of paving bricks.

The contraband was discovered when, as a result of routine profiling, a 20foot container that had arrived into Dublin Port from Armenia was selected for scanning.

The cigarettes, branded "L&M Soft Plus" have a retail value of €212,698, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €167,876.
