Cigarettes and tobacco worth €5k seized by Revenue in Dublin operation
A large quantity of contraband cigarettes and tobacco has been seized by the Revenue in Dublin.
On Friday morning, Revenue Officers seized 2,300 cigarettes, 2.9 kg of tobacco and a car in the Meath Street area of Dublin.
The cigarettes branded "MG" and "Marlboro Gold" were seized, along with 2.9 kg of "Flandria" and “Samson” tobacco, when officers searched the car in the South inner city as part of an intelligence led enforcement operation targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco.
The car was seized because it was being used to transport the contraband cigarettes and tobacco.
The combined value of the seized tobacco product is in excess of €5,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €3,000.
Investigations are ongoing.
