Center Parcs UK – the British holiday resort giant – is reportedly planning to open a massive complex in Co Longford, which could create in the region of 500 jobs for the area.

Both independent.ie and RTE have reported that the resort will include over 200 lodges and villas with a vast spa and swimming pool area, as well as a large ‘water dome’. There will also be restaurants and bars on-site for holidaymakers.

It is believed Center Parcs plans, which will also see a further 600 jobs created in the construction sector for the building of the resort, will require hundreds of acres of forest land to be leased from Coillte near Ballymahon.

It is believed the cost of the family-focussed development could be in the region of €100m and an application for planning permission is currently being prepared.

One source said that it is considered to be the ‘biggest single private investment’ in Irish tourism’s history.

An official announcement from Center Parcs is expected tomorrow morning.
