Gardai are at the scene of a collision involving a large vehicle and a cyclist in Dublin.

The incident occurred at approximately 8am this morning.

A cement truck collided with the cyclist on Bridge Street on the south side of the city.

Bridge Street is now closed, Gardaí said.

The condition of the cyclist is unknown but the collision is being described as 'serious'.

There is heavy traffic in the area as a result of the collision.

"Emergency services are dealing with a crash at Cornmarket at the Bridge Street junction," AA Roadwatch said.

"Traffic from High Street cannot access Bridge Street and diversions are in place for traffic travelling in on Thomas Street via Bridge Street.

"This will add to already busy traffic approaching Christchurch from Harold's Cross Road."
