Cars crushed and trucks thrown as Storm Imogen wrecks ship cargo
The cargo of Irish Ferries ship Epsilon sustained extensive damage as Storm Imogen battered the boat on its route from Cherbourg to Dublin.
The images of the ship’s cargo, which suffered the brunt of a treacherous journey, are startling.
Thousands of euro worth of damage was sustained during the crossing which one observed told Afloat.ie was likely the “worst ever” from France, suggesting that it was “lucky the ship was not lost.”
The website says that the 2011 Italian-built ship hit winds of a constant 60-knots with gusts of 105-knots in places.
The ship, which had to take refuge in waters off the North Devon coast, eventually landed in Dublin on Tuesday afternoon – more than 24 hours after it’s expected time of arrival at 11am on Monday morning.
