Brendan O'Carroll has shown he is a true legend as he has made yet another fantastic gesture to two very worthy Irish causes.

The comedy star has bid an incredible €5,000 for Shane Lowry's hole-in-one ball from Augusta.

The Offaly man put the ball up for sale at an auction being run to aid two great causes, Pieta House and Louise James, who lost five members of her family in the Buncrana pier tragedy.

The auction is being run by Brendan's son Danny, who plays Buster on the show.

Dubliner Danny, who lives in Co Donegal, had already been working on the gala celebrity dinner for Pieta House when he watched the Buncrana tragedy unfold on Australian TV where he had been touring with the show.

“There have been so many suicides in Donegal that I wanted to help the charity Pieta House set up in Letterkenny,” Danny told

“Then this awful accident happened in Buncrana. I was watching it on the TV news in Australia and I was devastated."

The auction only kicked off last night but Brendan's bid has certainly upped the stakes ahead of the Friday night fundraiser.

This isn't the first big-hearted gesture by the funny man.

Earlier this year he paid for a funeral service for a Polish man who had no family in Ireland and in January he donated $50,000 to the family of a pregnant woman who died in a car crash in Australia.
