BREAKING: Woman’s body discovered in Co Wicklow

A murder investigation is expected to be launched after a woman’s body was discovered at a house in Co Wicklow this afternoon.

It is believed to be a local woman who had been reported missing in recent days. 

The body was discovered in Ashford Co Wicklow this afternoon 

The body remains at the scene which is being preserved for a full Garda Technical Examination.

The Wicklow Coroner and the State Pathologists office have been notified. Professor Marie Cassidy is expected at the scene later this afternoon.

A 38 year old man was arrested this afternoon in Co Wicklow in connection with this investigation and is currently detained at Wicklow Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí who were investigating the disappearance of Wicklow woman Anne Shortall discovered the body.

Ms Shortall was last seen on Friday last at around 3.55pm in Leitrim Place, Wicklow Town.

A body was found by gardai shortly after 1pm and is believed to be under a tarp in the shed.

It's believed that the woman did not die at the scene where her body was found.
