Three divers reporting missing off the coast of Northern Ireland have been found safe and well in the sea, the Coastguard said.

Three divers reporting missing off the coast of Northern Ireland have been found safe and well in the sea, the Coastguard said.

A major air and sea search was launched after the divers went missing off Blackhead, near Whitehead, Co Antrim, shortly before 5.30pm.

An Irish Coast Guard helicopter was involved in the search along with Coastguard rescue teams from Portmuck and Larne.

A number of merchant vessels also helped with the operation.

A Coastguard spokesman said the divers had been located in the water by a lifeboat and they were due to be airlifted to shore for medical checks.

"They are safe and well," he said.


The divers went missing in the sea at Blackhead, near Whitehead, Co Antrim, shortly before 5.30pm.

An Irish Coastguard helicopter is involved in the search along with Coastguard rescue teams from Portmuck and Larne. A number of merchant vessels are also helping with the search.

There are no further details at present.
