A man has been found dead following a shooting in Dublin city.

The man was discovered this morning, shorty before 12 in Drumcondra.

Gardai have sealed off the scene and have opened an investigation.

It's understood the man was found near the 'Cat and Cage' pub on Church Avenue at approximately 11am.

It is believed that the two men were in a dark-coloured car when they were shot. It is believed the car was rammed from behind before one or possibly two gunmen emerged from the offending car.

They fired a number of shots at the first man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services are at the scene and have tended to the second victim who was also hit during the shooting. His condition is unknown.

A car is understood to have been found burnt out close by and Gardai are trying to establish whether it was used in the shooting.

Locals have been advised to stay indoors after some on social media reported hearing several gunshots.

Dublin City Councillor Noel Rock said on twitter: "Shocked to hear of a body apparently discovered at Church Avenue, Drumcondra. Spoke to Gardai only last week about increasing presence there."

The condition of the other victim is unknown but reports suggest he has been brought to hospital.
