A cyclist has died following a collision with a 4X4 this afternoon, gardai say.

Gardaí at Gurranabraher in Cork are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision.

A spokesperson said it occurred on the Ballincollig bypass in Cork this afternoon at approximately 12.25pm.

The collision involved a male cyclist who was aged in his 30s and a 4 X 4 vehicle.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 4 X 4 vehicle was uninjured.

The road is closed to traffic and local diversions are in place while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene. The local coroner has been notified.
