An Army Bomb Disposal Team rendered safe a Hoax device in the Townsend/Shaw Street area of Dublin city centre today.

The Defence Forces deployed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team after a suspect device was found on waste ground under a railway bridge.

A cordon and road closures were in place and commercial and residential properties were evacuated for public safety.

The team arrived on scene at 3.10 pm.

The device was disrupted by controlled explosion and made safe at the scene.

On examination the devise was assessed as being a hoax.

Items of an evidential nature have been handed over to the Gardaí to assist them with their investigation.

The scene was declared safe at 4.55 pm.

All trains in and out of Tara Street Station were halted during the operation.

Reports indicate that the alarm was raised at around 2.30pm after the device was found on waste ground at Shaw St, between Pearse St and Townsend St.

Train lines have since reopened
