Standoff in Meath ends peacefully

A standoff involving gardai ended peacefully last night, authorities said.

Gardai have confirmed that an incident was an ongoing one in the village of Stamullen yesterday evening. 

Local reports said there were four armed response units, two garda vans, four garda cars and three ambulances at the scene. 

Earlier reports indicated that a man in his 80s was being held hostage.

The incident had allegedly been ongoing since 5pm yesterday. 

Gardai said it ended without incident.
