Brace yourself for a mini-heatwave tomorrow

One last blast of summer is on the way
One last blast of summer is on the way

It looked like winter had set in but there is one more glorious, and unexpected, blast of summer left.

Thanks to a flow of tropical air coming up from the Azores, Ireland is set to experience a blast of warm weather over the next 36 hours, and for much of the rest of the week.

This afternoon will see temperatures reach a very respectable 15 to 18 degrees while it looks like a return to the balmy nights too, with lowest temperatures of between 10 and 13 overnight.

Tomorrow, though, is when the real bonus weather kicks in.

While all areas can expect some cloud, and a few spots of rain, when the sun does get out it will be glorious. The north west of the country will have temperatures in the 16 to 17 degress range while the east coast can expect to hit 21 degrees, well above the average for this time of year.

Freshening, gusty winds will see temperatures drop back to 13 to 16 degrees on Thursday with heavy showers but Friday is promised to be much drier with more sunshine and temperatures again in the mid to high teens.

As for Saturday, and the All-Ireland final replay, Met Eireann are saying that the weather will be cooler and showery so fingers crossed the rain avoids Jones' Road.
