The weather forecast from Met Eireann for the Bank Holiday weekend suggests the winter is finally about to make its mark.

So far this month we have been very lucky, with above average temperatures meaning that the winter feeling hasn't really kicked in.

But this weekend, not only do the clocks go back an hour, meaning darker evenings, but the weather is also set to take a darker turn.

According to Met Eireann the last Bank Holiday of the year before Christmas will be much wetter, colder and windier than the weather we have been enjoying.

From Friday night rain will become persistant and heavy across the country but it will clear up a bit on Saturday.

However, Saturday will still see some showers across the country while it will feel much cooler than recent days, with temperatures of between nine and 12 degrees.

Saturday night will be even colder, with temperatures of between two and six degress across the country.

Sunday will be the best day of the weekend, mostly dry but with some rain in the west.

However, heavy rain is forecast to hit the country on Sunday night and it will continue into Monday, which is described by Met Eireann as being a wet and windy day, with strong winds and heavy rain, especially in the south and east.

MIght be time to finally put the heating on...
