A young boy is in hospital in serious condition following a collision involving a bus earlier today.

The six-year-old boy was involved in a collision with a coach in Dunmanway, west Cork this afternoon. 

The accident occurred on the main road between Dunmanway and Bantry at approximately 4pm. 

Gardai said they are investigating the collision, which happened at approximately 4pm this afternoon near Mary Immaculate College. 

The boy was seriously injured in the collision. He was struck by a bus on the Bantry Road at Tonafora.

Emergency services were called and he was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

Gardai said the main road between Dunmanway and Bantry where the incident took place is partially closed, but traffic is being allowed through. 

They said there are delays on the road.
