A four-year-old boy who was killed in a farming accident last night has been named.

The youngster, named as Declan Donoghue, was holidaying in the area with his parents in the lead up to a family wedding.

He was struck by a tractor in Erris, County Mayo, which was being driven by a relative.

The young boy was cycling near his grandfather’s home in the village of Bellanaboy when the collision occurred at about 8.20pm.

His devastated immediate family, who are from Galway, were scheduled to attend the wedding of a relative in the area.

The wedding has been called off due to the tragedy.

Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority have confirmed they are investigating the death.

The youngster was rushed to Belmullet District Hospital following the accident but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

A post-mortem is due to take place in Ballina tomorrow.
