Boy (4) hit by car after running onto street to escape wasp
A four-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after he was hit by a car in Co Cork.
Reports indicate that the child had run onto the road to escape a wasp and was knocked down by a passing car near St John's Well just off the Commons Road in Cork.
The boy had been playing with friends near a local green when he became frightened by the insect and ran onto the road.
He was hit by a female motorist and was dragged for several metres by the car, which had to be lifted off the child.
Emergency services were on the scene within minutes and the boy was rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) with multiple impact injuries.
The boy was brought to hospital where he was described as being in a critical but stable condition.
Gardai commenced inquiries in the area seeking to speak to everyone at the accident scene.
