Man arrested after Irish boxer Eamonn Magee Jr murdered
A man has been arrested after the the son of Irish boxing legend Eamonn Magee, Eamonn Magee Jr, was stabbed to death in Belfast.
The attack happened in the Summerhill Park area on Saturday morning.
It wasn't reported to police until 2.30am.
A 32-year-old man was arrested in the Dunmurry area on the outskirts of Belfast.
Sunday World sources have described the murder of 22-year-old Eamonn as "shocking", and have said that the young lad was a gifted boxer who stayed away from trouble.
The Sunday World understands that Eamonn Jr was studying for business degree at the University of Ulster and was working on qualifications to become a personal trainer.
Eamonn was a promising young boxer and all-Ireland champion.
A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspicious death of a man, aged in his 20s, in the Summerhill Park area of West Belfast in the early hours of Saturday, May 30.
"At this time police are treating this as a murder investigation. There are no further details at this time."
Jennifer McCann of Sinn Fein said: "A young man has tragically lost his life. People are wakening up here this morning, they're seeing the cordoned off area, they're hearing the sad news, so people are very, very shocked and very saddened by this."
