Boucher Road playing fields to be new venue for NI Fanzone

The new Belfast Fanzone for Northern Ireland and Republic fans to watch the game against Wales on Saturday has been named.

It will be the Boucher Playing fields in South Belfast, which also plays host to the Tennents Vital gigs.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Alderman Brian Kingston said it was a great resolution.

He said: "The Fan Zone at Titanic Quarter, operated by the organisers of the Belsonic festival, was a terrific success during the qualifying round.

"However, as it was known that the Titanic site would not be available past the qualifying rounds, the council was working behind the scenes to identify a suitable alternative site.

“Boucher Road is a great site, accessible to all parts of the city, and beyond.

"By locating the Fan Zone here, the Council is ensuring as many fans as possible get the chance to continue to demonstrate their phenomenal support for both teams as they enter this crucial knockout stage.”

Belfast City Council announced the change of venue earlier today. It is thought it could cost the council as much as £100,000.

Full opening times and terms of entry will be posted on Belfast City Council's website on Friday morning.
