Bomb disposal team make safe ‘viable device’ in house in Kildare
An investigation has been launched after a bomb was found at a house in Kildare after midnight last night.
The army bomb disposal team rendered safe what they described as a ‘viable device’ at around 1.30am this morning at a house at Bothar Bui in Athy.
A controlled explosion was not needed in this instance, but roads in the vicinity were closed off, a security cordon was put in place and houses were evacuated as a precaution.
The scene was eventually declared safe at 3am.
The explosive ordnance disposal team (EOD) took the device to a ‘secure military location’ for further examination, and An Garda Siochana will be conducting an investigation.
