The family of missing singer and musician Stephen (Stevie) Martin have confirmed that his body has been found.

A body found in Co Sligo over the weekend was confirmed as that of the missing man who performed as Rainy Boy Sleep.

He had been missing for over three weeks.

Family friend Conor Macan Amenos posted on Facebook the message that the man's friends and fans had feared - that Stevie was dead.

He wrote: "Stevie's mum asked me to let everyone know that his body's been found & that his soul's at peace.

"Thank you everyone for the prayers & concern you're shown, it was appreciated by his family & friends."

PSNI Foyle also confirmed the sad news on its Facebook page and that they had called of the search.

They paid the following tribute the man from Lifford, Donegal: "He was a true gem of this city and when you look at how the whole community came together in an effort to find him, it's beyond clear how much he meant to everyone who knew and loved him!"

Mr Martin had been last seen in the Londonderry area three weeks ago.

It was believed that he had travelled to the Republic. His Audi car was discovered parked at Fanad Lighthouse in Donegal.

Police had launched an appeal to find the missing man and a social media campaign under the hashtag #findstevie.

He had played Glastonbury for three consecutive years, was nominated for Best Stole Act in the NI Music Awards in 2011  and toured with Cyndi Lauper and James Morrison.
