Body found in suitcase in canal is of recent victim
The body parts found in a suitcase on the Grand Canal in Co Kildare on Saturday afternoon are those of a man who met his death in recent days, gardai believe.
Gardaí have appealed for information from anybody who may have seen the suitcase in the water anytime since Thursday last at a press conference at Ardclough Bridge.
The body parts were discovered in a dark grey suitcase in the water beside the Lyons Estate, close to Ardclough village, by walkers at about 3.30pm on Saturday.
The canal path where the suitcase was found remained sealed off by gardaí this afternoon.
Shortly after midday a hearse emerged with a Garda escort and local gardaí said the remains had been removed for a postmortem.
Gardaí are reviewing missing person’s files as part of the investigation.
The fact that the body was that of a man who met his death recently suggests it is not that of missing man Barry Corcoran.
