Body found in search two weeks after fisherman went missing
Teams searching for a fisherman missing off the north west coast for a fortnight have found a body.
The discovery was made by local fishermen near Downpatrick Head, Co. Mayo on Friday evening, according to independent.ie.
The body is believed to be that of Daniel Doherty from the Broadhaven Bay area of Co. Mayo. He was last seen on Friday, September 11 at Rinroe Pier as he went to re-bait lobster pots.
The remains were recovered by Killala Coast Guard and were later transferred to Ballyglass lifeboat.
Extensive searches have been carried out daily for the 23-year-old since he disappeared. Garda boats, Civil Defence forces, Coast Guard units have been joined by local volunteers for the past two weeks in a bid to find Mr Doherty.
The body is expected to be positively identified tomorrow.
A spokesperson for Malin Head Coast Guard said that further, more intense search operations would continue if the body was not that of Mr Doherty.
