A body has been found off Baltimore in Co, Cork 10 days after 20-year-old Barry Davis Ryan was swept into the sea.

Davis-Ryan went missing after entering the sea to attempt to rescue his girlfriend Niamh O’Connor (20) – who had gotten into difficulties in the freak accident at East Hole just outside the scenic town. Her body was recovered shortly after the incident.

The man’s father, also called Barry, drowned trying to save his son from the sea.

Dozens of divers from across the country were aiding in the search for Mr Davis Ryan's body for the last 10 days but after a huge deployment of volunteers in the last 36 hours to take advantage of the better weather, a body has been recovered.

In total, 122 volunteers, 65 experienced recovery divers and 57 support officials were involved in the search and divers came from Dublin, Sligo and Louth to help.
