Body discovered in Waterford

A body was this evening discovered floating in water in Waterford.

At approximately 5.15pm earlier today a member of the public called emergency services when they spotted a person's remains in the water at Granny in Ferrybank.
 
The Coast Guard helicopter was launched and directed the river rescue team to the scene.
 
The body was removed from at the slipway at Granny. Gardai have been notified of the discovery.
 
The remains have now been removed to Waterford University Mortuary where a post-mortem is expected to take place tomorrow.
 
It is not known at this stage if the body is that of a man or a woman.
