Belt up: Major initiative to clamp down on those not wearing seatbelts this week
If you’re in the habit of NOT wearing a seatbelt when in the car (with the obvious question being ‘why bloody not?’) you have a very good chance of being stopped and fined this week, as the gardai are participating in Europe-wide initiative to clamp down on the practice.
In conjunction with the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) they are launching a renewed campaign to improve road safety by wearing seatbelts, with the initiative running from this morning until next Sunday.
If you are found not to be wearing a seatbelt – whether as the driver or a passenger – you will be immediately issued with a fine.
Failure to wear a seatbelt is the second most common reason for deaths on our roads, with speeding being the most common.
