Basil McCrea quits Northern Ireland politics
Basil McCrea is to quit Northern Ireland politics.
The NI21 leader said he had become disillusioned.
The Lagan Valley Assembly member announced that he would not contest the May elections and was seeking a new career.
Mr McCrea and fellow Ulster Unionist John McCallister left the party in 2013 to establish the new group.
However an eve-of- election feud between the two men in 2014 over whether NI21 should be defined as unionist wrecked its chances of electoral success.
Mr McCrea announced his decision to step aside in the Belfast Telegraph on Tuesday morning.
