Arrest made after Derry hatchet attack

A 31-year-old male has been arrested following reports of a man being attacked with a hatchet in Derry.


The incident happened in the Chapel Road area shortly before 4am.

The man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, aggravated burglary and common assault. 

One man received treatment for cuts to his arm and face during the altercation..

Detective Sergeant Brian Reid, of Reactive and Organised Crime, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have any information that could assist in our investigation, to contact detectives at Strand Road quoting reference 121 of 15th September."
