A member of staff at a Dublin adventure centre had to be treated in hospital after tackling an armed gang who tried to rob the premises after closing time yesterday.

Three men armed with an iron bar and a long-bladed knife arrived at the indoor play and adventure centre in the Whitestown Business Park in Tallaght just after 6pm.

They had their faces covered and were driving a blue Ford Fiesta car.

Gardai say two of the men stayed outside the popular centre while the third man went inside and threatened staff while demanding cash.

The raider struggled with one of the staff members who received a hand injury in the process.

The three-man gang then fled the scene empty-handed after the botched raid and the Ford Fiesta was later found burned-out in the nearby Killinarden estate.

After the robbery the injured staff member was treated in Tallaght Hospital for a hand wound which was described as not serious.

Gardai in Tallaght are investigating.
