Appeal after prosthetic leg stolen from Irish ‘blade runner’

An Irish Paralympic athlete is desperately appealing to the public for help after one of his ‘running blades’ was stolen.

Shane McLaughlin, from Monaghan, is due to compete next week in a meeting in Berlin. He had his leg amputated below the knee following an accident in 2012.

However, his carbon fibre prosthetic ‘leg’ was stolen on Friday night from his car.

The incident occurred at his house in Clonkeencole between the hours of 9pm on Friday and 5am yesterday morning, and he is desperate to track it down – as his dreams of winning at the meeting are scuppered if he can’t trace the prosthetic.

Gardai are seeking the public’s help in locating the leg and say it is of no use to anyone other than Shane.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Garda confidential line on 1800 666111.
