Abandoned dog blasted in the face by cruel thugs

An abandoned dog was left blind and fighting for its life after being blasted in the face with a firearm.

The shocking incident occurred in the Knock area of Co Mayo last week, with up to 60 pellets still currently lodged in the canine’s head.

Members of the Mayo SPCA were notified by horrified locals about the incident, and immediately responded to the callout.

Upon treating the severely neglected dog they discovered that she had suffered gunshot wounds to the face and has subsequently been left blind as a result of the horrific attack.

Volunteers have said that the dog, named Fawn has since been x-rayed and treated by vets who realised that there are currently 50 to 60 pellets embedded in her ear and head.

“Today Fawn was assessed by our vet, who confirmed that Fawn had been shot in the face by a firearm. The pellets remain lodged and her sight is gone.

“She only weights 20kg, at least 10 kg less than her ideal weight. At present she is too underweight to undergo a procedure to have the pellets removed,” the Mayo SPCA wrote on its social media account.

Despite the horrific injuries the group added that Fawn is currently recovering and getting accustomed to her new surroundings.

“Thank God none of the pellets have penetrated too far and none in the stomach area. She is eating well and becoming accustomed to her new surroundings and family,” according to volunteers at Mayo SPCA.

“To say we were overwhelmed by the response we got to Fawn’s story is an understatement. Tonight Fawn is doing well, she is safe, warm and very much loved,” the group added.
