36-year-old killed after motorbike hit barrier and burst into flames

A 36-year-old man has died after his motorbike collided with a barrier and burst into flames in a tragic accident.

Gardaí are appealing for information about the single vehicle collision which occurred in Greystones, Co Wicklow, tonight at around 6.25pm.

Whilst investigations are at an early stage, it is understood the motorcyclists died after the bike collided with a nearby barrier at the Charlesland roundabout on the Farrenkelly Road.

It is believed that when the bike hit the barrier, it burst into flames upon impact

These pictures show the aftermath of the crash, with the driver's motorcyclists completely burnt out.

Although emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision, he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

It is understood that nobody else was involved in the horrific incident.

The road remained closed last night to facilitate a forensic examination.

Local councillor Nicola Lawless said the entire area is devastated by the tragedy.

“Even though you might not directly know the person involved, an incident like this affects the whole community,” Ms Lawless told the Herald last night.

“It is tragic for the family and he was such a young person.”

Ms Lawless added the roundabout where the incident occurred would not be known as a blackspot.
