23-year-old runner dies after collapse at Dublin Half Marathon
A 23-year-old man collapsed and died near the finish line of today's Dublin Half Marathon.
The race organiser's official Twitter account confirmed the tragedy.
With great regret we must confirm that a 23yr old man passed away at today's race. We ask that you respect the family's privacy at this time— Dublin Marathon (@dublinmarathon) September 19, 2015
The race took place in the Phoenix Park and after collapsing from a 'cardiac event' the man was treated on site by both fellow runners with medical expertise and St John's Ambulance staff before being transferred to James Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where RTE say he was pronounced dead.
