Huge collision on busy national road involving 14 cars

A multi-vehicle collision has occurred on the N25 Waterford to Cork road this afternoon, but gardai have stated that no serious injuries have yet been reported.

Gardai are dealing with a massive 14-car collision on the N25 between Cobh and Little Island this afternoon.

The incident, which happened close to the busy Dunkettle interchange, is being attended by emergency services.

It is understood that none of the injuries sustained in the incident are life-threatening.

However, a number of motorists are being taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for soft tissue injuries.

One middle aged man is being assessed for back injuries.

Another car contained two children but they were not injured.

The gardai released the following statement regarding the incident:

"A multi-vehicle collision (possible 14 vehicles) on the Midleton to Cork City road (N25 inbound) occurred shortly before 3pm today. Emergency services are at the scene.

"The road is currently closed and diversions are in place. Motorists are asked to use alternative routes.

"At this stage there are no serious injuries reported.

"Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Anglesea St garda station on 021 4522000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station."
