BAD-ASS
Get ready to run amok with this sharp-shooting sequel
BATTLEFIELD: BAD COMPANY 2 - ALL FORMATS
It's time to have a blast with those Battlefield boys again.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the first-person shooter from EA Digital Illusions CE and published by EA is blowing up all over our screens with a seriously destructive game.
The game is a direct sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company and once again you play Preston Marlow, one of the harebrained heroes of Bravo Two squad, fighting the Russian Army and a South American militia along the way.
Mayhem
The game's prologue takes place on a Japanese island at the end of WWII, where an American Army unit comes across the devastating 'Aurora' weapon.
The secret of this weapon drives the campaign some 70 years later.
The narrative moves along at a good pace and the slick cut-scenes make for a real cinematic feel. Those familiar with the first Bad Company will have no problem jumping into this game and blazing a trail of mayhem. Indeed, the controls are fairly handy for anyone who has played any FPS. However, this title is far superior to Battlefield games that have come before it.
Your player is armed with primary and secondary firearms, as well as grenades, a knife for melee and you can also call in airstrikes with your fancy binoculars in certain situations.
The great thing about Bad Company 2 is that one can only take cover in a certain place for a limited amount of time before the enemy blows the living hell out of it.
Explosions realistically tear holes in walls and open up new firezones, tearing entire buildings down. There are new vehicles in Bad Company 2, including the UH-60 Black Hawk, a quad bike, a two-man patrol boat, a personal watercraft, an AA-gun mounted on a light tank, and a UAV helicopter - controlled via computer.
Multi-player action across massive maps is Battlefield: Bad Company 2's speciality. Join a squad, jump in any one of 15 vehicles including tanks, helicopters and ATVs, and tear across the warzone.
The game's graphics are a joy to behold. Whether in the ice-cold Arctic or the dense jungles of South America, the environments
look spectacular. The characters are also wonderfully rendered and while there were one or two pop-ups that I noticed, overall the
game is a pleasure on the eye.
Fierce
The game's sound must also come in for praise as the voice acting, sound effects and score all add up to a very strong package.
While the game's campaign is pretty robust, the multiplayer modes really stand out. You can customise a match pretty much any way you want and choose from tons of modes and maps.
Bad Company 2 betters its predecessor with a great graphical engine, challenging AI and a more driven, engaging storyline.
The fighting is fast and fierce and the online multiplayer mode is an eruption of entertainment. Comparisons must be drawn to
Modern Warfare 2 and while Bad Company 2 can't beat Activision's masterpiece, it's definitely in the same league.

MAG’S IN THE MIDDLE OF WARZONE
MAG: PS3
STICKING with the FPS theme is MAG, the new multiplayer shooter from Sony and Zipper Interactive.
Set after the events of WWIII, new powers and players are coming together on a global scale to consolidate territorial control and profits.
Zipper Interactive were the people behind SOCOM so it stands to reason that they'd know a thing or two about the genre - and with tight controls, this appears to be the case. The difficulty can vary but overall it's a positive experience.
At the outset, you must decide what faction your allegiance lies with.
There is the US, Canadian and UK group, which is known as 'Valor', if you want to get your hands dirty then the Middle East and Russia 'SVER' boys could be the ones for you and then there is also the European 'Raven' group.
The graphics and sound are very well done but the huge multiplayer games, in which up to 256 players can compete, can get a bit crazy at times.
RATING: 7/10
