Ireland's goalscorer last night got to share his magic night with his brother and partner and the images are already all-time classics.

The young winger, who is from Baldoyle in Dublin, met Wes Hoolahan's cross with just minutes to go to send Ireland into a mouth-watering clash with hosts France in Lyon on Sunday.

And the emotion that was etched on his face as he wheeled away to celebrate was again in evidence as he embraced his girlfriend Kerrie Harris at the final whistle and moments later spoke with RTE about a goal that will go down in Irish sporting history.

"I dunno. My body started to carry my legs into the box. Just trust in Wes to put it where it hurts and I've managed to get my head on it. I'm lost for words really, I'm over the moon, emotional. It's unbelievable," he said.

The Norwich player then stopped to take in the sounds of the stadium at Lille as thousands of Irish fans celebrated wildly.

"Just have a look around and have a listen to what it means to everyone that's involved, me included," he said, the tears welling up in his eyes.

"I grew up waiting for this stage, dreaming about it since I was a little kid. To go and do it in front of my family is the best feeling in the world."

"What a fantastic night, I'm absolutely flabbergasted for all," he said.
The player - who had a composed game in midfield - put the victory down to "hard work and determination"

Following the final whistle, a jubilant Robbie ran to to the stands in the Stade Denis where he could see his brother and partner Kerrie.

Kerrie, a choreographer who is from Swords in North County Dublin, was hoisted carefully from the crowds so she could embrace the Irish goalscorer as his tearful brother looked on.

The couple are parents to two-year-old daughter Halle, and Kerrie runs the Soul2Sould dance school in her native Swords.
The couple keep a low profile - but the spotlight will stay on them for some time following Robbie's heroics and his celebrations with his girlfriend afterwards.
