The Ireland winger sent a tweet referencing the referendum result and a possible Border Poll here in Ireland.

McClean posted an image of himself and Sinn Fein politician Martin McGuinness with the message: 'Reignition of the flames of reunification #BorderPoll #UnitedIreland'.

The tweet, as you might imagine, got a large reaction but within minutes not only was the tweet gone, but McClean had deleted his Twitter account too.

McClean has a history of getting himself into hot water on Twitter, and he has closed previous Twitter accounts he has held, most infamously after he received death threats in the wake of his call up to the Republic of Ireland squad before the 2012 Euros.

We suspect he will be off the social network this time until the end of Ireland's involvement in France.
