The nation will grind to a halt at 2pm on Sunday as the Republic of Ireland take on France in the last-16 of Euro 2016 - and John Aldridge is backing the Boys in Green to pull off a miracle win.

Aldo cheered Ireland on to a famous win against Italy last Wednesday and now he is backing Martin O'Neill's men to pull off an even bigger shock by beating the hosts in Lyon.

"The Ireland team we saw beating Italy the other night was a blast from the past," Aldo tells us.

"We saw a team playing the way we used to play when I was in the team and Jack Charlton was the manager. We went after Italy and they didn't fancy it.

"Now we have to repeat that performance against France and let's see if they are up to the challenge against an Ireland team that may want the win more than they do."

With a €50 bet donated by Paddy Power, Aldo is backing Ireland to move into the quarter-finals in the most dramatic fashion today, with all winnings donated to Dublin's Temple Street Children's hospital:

€50 on the Republic of Ireland to beat France on penalties at 11/1 (possible returns €600.00)
