X Factor like Hunger Games, says contestant

Simon Cowell's own X Factor contestant has compared the show to the Hunger Games.

Kerrie-Anne Phillips wowed this weekend (17-18Oct15) during the latest round of the ITV talent show; the unpredictable Six Chair Challenge. She managed to not only bag a seat, but more importantly hang on to it which means she's on her way to the Judges' Houses stage of the competition. The 28-year-old is in the Overs category, which this year is being mentored by X Factor boss Simon.

"The toughest part of the competition so far has to be the Six Chair Challenge," Kerrie-Anne admitted to Britain's The Mirror newspaper. "It was brutal and unexpected. I knew the format of it but I had no idea how intense it was going to be.

"I felt blessed in my situation because when I got out on stage the audience were fine. But the other contestants had a really rough time and that was not nice to see. It reminded me of the Hunger Games. It was a fight to the death."

While Kerrie-Anne is still on cloud nine, the same can't be said for Simon. Viewers blasted the show after he picked the six contestants to take with him to Judges' Houses, with many complaining the 56-year-old was too rude to the singing wannabes. Eight million viewers tuned in and got to see Simon give some of the contestants a seat, only to take it away again. Some found the viewing so uncomfortable, they even complained to Ofcom.

"Hello. In Cabo Mexico this weekend. Our friends (sic) birthday," Simon tweeted before the show aired.

"And I have just watched Sunday's episode of the XFactor 6 Chair Challenge! Gulp I think I have made two big mistakes!"

Simon and fellow judges Rita Ora, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Nick Grimshaw will now decide who goes forward to the live shows.
