X Factor bosses ‘introducing music legends to panel’
The X Factor bosses are reportedly enlisting legendary musicians as guest judges in a bid to boost ratings.
Simon Cowell currently heads the panel which also features Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw. Viewers have acted as the fifth judge this series, choosing each mentor’s category in one new twist on the format. Now it seems bosses are still keen to shake things up and hope that introducing a music legend as a sixth judge at the live shows will pull in viewers.
“It may seem like we are constantly changing the goalposts but we are determined to make this year as successful as we can,” a show insider told Britain’s The Sun newspaper. “The plan is to have a legend each week as a guest judge.”
In a bid to secure older viewers, Simon, 56 and his team are reportedly approaching singing stars like Cher, Rod Stewart, Dolly Parton and Bryan Adams about getting involved.
Axed The Voice coach Tom Jones and Beatles legend Paul McCartney are also thought to have been approached.
Former judge Louis Walsh, who has featured in every series until this year’s run, will also make a comeback, but exactly how is still to be decided according to the source.
“It’s still not clear where Louis will fit in, but he is going to be involved,” the insider added.
One person who will not be thrilled to see the Irishman back on the show is former Girls Aloud singer Cheryl. The Geordie star has been exchanging comments with Louis for months and recently stood up for new signing Nick after the music manager called him a “bad booking”.
“I am madly in love with the new panellists,” she told the outlet. “I adore Nick, even if he is getting a bashing. I have not been told Louis is coming back.”
