Victoria Wood would date a 90 year old

Victoria Wood would date a "fit and healthy" 90-year-old man.

The 61-year-old comedienne - best known for playing Brenda Furlong in the popular TV comedy 'Dinnerladies' - has been single since splitting from her magician husband Geoffrey Durham in 2002 and has joked her best chance of finding a new partner would be to date a World War II veteran.

She told LBC Radio: "I am single, totally. I don't have much choice. You look at most middle-aged gentlemen and they tend to go out with ladies 20 years younger.

"If I was to find a gentleman it would probably be someone who has bombed Dresden. It would probably be someone about 90. I don't mind - there is nothing wrong with that as long as they are fit and healthy."

The TV comic - who has collaborated with Julie Walters on numerous occasions over the years - has also admitted she thinks comedy is really a man's job and it can be hard for women to break through because they don't always have the same competitive nature as guys.

She said:"Comedy is a man's thing, it is a competitive sport and it is not the way I do it. When you see me on TV that is all me. I do a good dowdy. I get asked to do more dowdy than I get asked to do glam. I always feel I haven't done that much. Because I've had children I don't have a huge back catalogue."

Victoria - who has two grown-up kids, Grace, 25, and Henry 21 - is currently filling her time working on a script for a new movie that she is eager to direct rather than star in.

She revealed: "It's a contemporary comedy, it's not northern. There might be a brass band, though."
