TOWIE's Nanny Pat dies aged 80

Beloved The Only Way Is Essex grandma Nanny Pat has passed away, following a short illness.

The reality TV star, real name Pat Brooker, was a favourite among viewers, gaining popularity with her famous sausage plait recipe and sweet one-liners. The Wright and Brooker family released a statement to MailOnline on Wednesday morning (16Dec15) confirming Pat has died at the age of 80.

"Sadly our amazing, courageous and beautiful Nanny Pat passed away this morning after a short illness," the statement reads.

"We are overwhelmed by sadness, and the whole family ask for privacy at this horrible time."

The last episode of series 16 showed Pat and her family, including granddaughter and fellow TOWIE star Jessica Wright, celebrating her 80th with a royal-themed birthday bash. The reality show veteran arrived in a horse-drawn carriage and was crowned queen for the day. Later in the episode she was presented with a touching photo album of herself and her late husband Charles Brooker, who she was married to for 52 years. Her tears moved viewers and made many cry themselves.

"He's everywhere," she smiled sadly. "Thank you, Jess. That's really lovely.'

Jess also sang for her grandmother, while her daughter Carol got on stage to give a speech.

"I would like to thank everyone for celebrating Mummy's birthday," she said. "This little old lady puts everyone first and never asks for anything in return - apart from a packet of candy!"

Nanny Pat was a mother of five, grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of six.
