The Great British Bake Off fans reveal glee over show's emoji

The Great British Bake Off now has its very own emoji.

Fans of the BBC baking show will have their viewing experience taken to a whole new level when the series returns on Wednesday night (24Aug16) thanks to the specially created symbol they can use when tweeting about the programme.

The emoji features the show's famous white tent, complete with Union Jack flag bunting, and will be activated every time someone uses the official hashtag #GBBO.

News of the emoji went down well with fans, who quickly tweeted their delight.

One wrote, "Just when I thought I couldn't love this show anymore they went and did that," while another tweeted, "I want to live inside this hashtag."

The new series of Bake Off looks set to be one of the most exciting to date, with the opening episode showing a third of the baking hopefuls forced to throw away their fresh cakes and start from scratch.

It's during the showstopper challenge that things start to go wrong for the competitors, with PE teacher Candice seen throwing her cake bases at the tent wall after complaining that they're "like rubber" after failing to rise.

Meanwhile Royal Society of Arts worker Tom has to start again after he has a flour mix fail, explaining: "Bits of it were souffle, other bits were pancake.”

Ironically, the stress over the showstopper, which also sees teaching assistant Benjamina in tears, comes after judge Paul Hollywood opens the programme by explaining this year's series will be taking hopefuls "back to basics".

"Over the years our challenges have got a little bit more difficult," he says. "What we want to do is take it back to basics a little bit. But that doesn’t mean that the judging is going to get any easier. In fact, it’s going to get harder."
