Spencer Matthews: Quitting jungle was not my call

Made in Chelsea's Spencer Matthews insists exiting the I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! jungle was absolutely "not his call".

The British reality TV star disappointed fans when he quit the show without warning on Friday (20Nov15), later revealing it was because he was taking "steroid-based medication" to bulk up for a charity boxing match.

In a statement he admitted he had withheld the fact he was taking the pills from the production team, which eventually decided it would be unsafe for him to remain on the programme.

Now he's taken to Twitter to respond to a message from fellow reality star Spencer Pratt, whose sister Stephanie also appears on Made in Chelsea and is an ex of Matthews'.

"@SpencerMatthews I'm gutted you're out of #IAC ! You were gonna takeover that jungle. I did say how is he gonna keep his new muscles tho? (sic)," Pratt joked, with Matthews replying: ".@spencerpratt Mate tell me about it! Leaving was obviously not my call! I would do absolutely anything to still be in there. Was loving it!"

Matthews has received plenty of support on Twitter, with ex-Made in Chelsea star Hugo Taylor also reaching out to him: "Love you always pal! I have more admiration of you than ever. Best friend anyone could ask for. X," Taylor wrote.

Matthews also used the social networking site to apologise to his family and friends, saying he had "disappointed" them. It's now being claimed those close to him had no idea about his reliance on the pills and that Matthews will head to rehab to wean himself off the steroids.

“He has one of the best teams in the business around him and they are having talks about how they can save his career," a source told Britain's The Mirror newspaper.

“Their main priority is looking after Spencer and making sure he is on the straight and narrow. His family are distraught because they didn’t know what was going on. This has come out of the blue.”
