SiCo: Live mistakes are fun
Simon Cowell thinks something going wrong on The X Factor live shows is “part of the fun”.
On this year’s series of the ITV singing competition, the Judge’s Houses segment will be aired live from four different locations around the globe for the first time. It’s a technical and logistical nightmare for the production staff, but Simon is looking forward to any potential blips that might occur.
“I know that it could go wrong. But I think that’s part of the fun,” he told British newspaper the Daily Star. “I often think when we do live shows, I wish something would fall from the ceiling on to the stage just to show it’s live.”
Simon has been on the receiving end of some unexpected mishaps during live transmissions in the past. On The X Factor, Scottish DJ Calvin Harris and comedian Lee Nelson have both stormed the stage at separate times, while on Britain’s Got Talent the music mogul was pelted with eggs during one of the live finals.
“The eggs was a big one. I kind of like all that,” he laughed.
While judges houses has undergone a massive overall for this year’s series of The X Factor, Simon admits to the outlet that the live shows haven’t escaped unscathed.
“The live shows are going to have some big changes,” he revealed. “I’ve got some ideas and we’re going to trial them to see what works. I want the lives to be a lot more fun.”
With new judges Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw on board, as well as new hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack, it’s bound to be an exciting few months for the team. While Simon was sad to see former host Dermot O’Leary go after eight years, he’s pleased with his replacements.
“I loved Dermot but he wanted to do other things. I thought Olly and Caroline would be fun,” he said.
