Shayne Ward can't wait to be a Corrie crush

Shayne Ward wants to come into Coronation Street as a heartthrob.

The former X-Factor winner joins the ITV soap later this month as Aidan Connor, third cousin to Kym Marsh’s character Michelle. The 30-year-old cannot wait to sink his teeth into the role, and his lips onto the street’s bevy of stunning females.

“I’d love to be the new heartthrob. I want anything thrown at me. I want to give everything I possibly can so I can push myself,” he told British newspaper The Sun. “So if I can come in as a heartthrob that would be great.”

Aidan will descend on the famous cobbles to help Carla Connor, played by Alison King, sort her finances out following her recent gambling addiction. But Shayne admits he’d like to see his character do more than go over the papers with the Underworld boss.

“Obviously Carla, she’s so hot. She’s a strong woman; that’s attractive to see a woman so in control,” he replied when asked who his top crush was. “I can’t fancy Michelle, she’s my cousin. I can say, ‘You’re gorgeous, Cuz’ but that’s as far as it goes. Eva [Price] is coming back, she’s single again but I don’t know about a romance, it’s too soon for me to know.”

Shayne is thrilled to be working so closely with the Kym and Alison, and admits the former Hear'Say singer is his role model.

“It’s so much fun, it’s so relaxed. I should be intimidated to be working with two strong women but I love working with them,” he continued. “Kym has done incredibly. She’s signed on again and she’s done ten years. If I could have the same longevity she has, I’d be a happy man.”
