Sarah Harding's 'Corrie career cut short'
Sarah Harding won't be returning to Coronation Street's cobbles.
The former Girls Aloud singer only joined the soap last week as Joni, estranged wife of Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill). Her character was quick to have an altercation with soap regular Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) after Joni realised her husband was cheating on her with the fiery brunette, who is also his ex-wife.
However, Sarah's performance was panned by viewers and newspaper The Sun reports the star won't be staying on the show.
“It’s safe to say Sarah’s Corrie career hasn’t gone as planned. Fans and critics have been pretty unimpressed with her acting," a show insider said.
“It doesn’t reflect well on Corrie, who have been accused of chasing ratings with gimmicks. They will not be getting her back and the general consensus on set is that this was a failed experiment.”
A Coronation Street spokesperson insisted that Sarah's cameo role was only to emphasise another storyline and there are no plans for her character to become a staple on the cobbles.
Fans of the programme shared their dismay at Sarah's acting skills on social media, with many piping up on Twitter.
One wrote, "Cringing at Sarah Harding in #Corrie. Awful, just AWFUL. (sic)" while another commented, “Sarah Harding in #Corrie is hurting me.”
This isn't the first time the former pop star has dipped her toes into the world of acting; she's appeared in British flicks such as St Trinian's and Run for Your Wife.
It's sure to be a disappointment for Sarah as she recently gushed about how she first impressed Coronation Street bosses.
“I went there late last year for Good Morning Britain, and they could see straight away that I was a fan. They gave me a grand tour and I got chatting to the casting and publicity people. They asked, ‘Can you act?’ and I said ‘I have been known to!’" she told The Sun.
