Roman Kemp in talks 'to host The Xtra Factor'
Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp’s son Roman is in the running to host The Xtra Factor.
The Capital FM DJ is reported to be in talks with show boss Simon Cowell and ITV for The X Factor spin-off show, currently hosted by Rochelle Humes and Melvin Odoom. His addition will cast some doubt on the future of the current hosts.
Roman, who counts Justin Bieber among his celebrity pals, impressed Simon when he interviewed him last year (15), and has been called into ITV2 for discussions.
When asked if he was in the running to present the ITV2 spin-off, Roman, 23, tells British newspaper The Sun: “Yeah. Obviously we have a lot of talks about it. We’ve had a lot of talks in the past year about Xtra Factor so we’ll see."
“For me, that’s the next step," adds the ambitious young DJ.
An X Factor insider confirmed Roman's meetings with show bosses, and adds to The Mirror: “Rochelle and Melvin did a great job last year. No decisions have been taken on what’s going to happen this year.”
Roman hosts Capital’s 7pm to 10pm weekday show, and recently hit headlines when he interviewed singer Selena Gomez and invited her out on a pizza date when she next returns to London.
The young broadcaster, whose father enjoyed huge fame as part of Spandau Ballet, and later as an actor says: “It’s nice to know these big shows I look up to are watching and thinking about putting me in that show. Having companies like ITV ask if you’re interested in doing these types of shows, like Xtra Factor, it’s nice, it’s really nice.”
Rochelle and Melvin took over The Xtra Factor last year (15), after previous host Sarah Jane-Crawford quit the show citing schedule conflicts.
